EMPOWER WITH SPORTS
In poor communities in Colombia, youth and children sit on the bench waiting for an opportunity to knock out poverty. Sports for Development program is an essential outdoor, action-packed classroom that puts impoverished children in the game to win in life. This organized sports program teaches players the rules of life through positive skill building. By focusing on abilities such as teamwork, goal setting, responsibility and conflict resolution, children and youth can develop into the kind of well-rounded, confident young people capable of making positive impressions on future employers.
Of the more than 340,000 impoverished children and youth who are supported by Children International’s services and programs, thousands have joined the Sports for Development program. Participating twice weekly for practice and competing in friendly tournaments on weekends allow these children to escape their impoverished neighborhoods to have fun and stay active on the playing fields.
